Somers Town
This shot has a beautiful composition- Tomo's outstretched leg completes a line with the diagonal trunk of the tree. Both boys look down introspectively as they introduce themselves. The dark background creates a spotlight-like emphasis on the boys.
This playful shot is one of many magical moments shown when the boys wheeled Maria home on the wheelchair. The three tree trunks and the white fence in the background create a frame around the characters. All bystanders look away, adding to the magic of the moment.
The adolescent boys eating food in the children park is a dramatic visual analogy of their immaturity during this part of the movie. They are about to get wasted drunk after finding out that Maria has gone to France. The handprints in the background are so subtle, it would be near impossible to realize without having taken a screenshot.
This is a silly, playful shot of the boys going wild together. The captured theatrical action implies movement and excitement. The composition is strengthened by Marek pointing at Tomo.
The distortion of the silhouette through the window glass is ominous and ghostly. It is a funny juxtaposition to the sign that reads "Children Playing On These Grounds Is Prohibited".
Somer's Town
The configuration of the lights and the walls in this shot are visually interesting
The perspective and despair are deep.
The father and son are framed and work well silhouetted
I like the triangular shape of the boys and the pictures
The expressions and scene convey a chaotic melancholy.

Karli Mogen Somers Town Assignment
This image emphasizes Tomo's desperation and loneliness at this point, and even does a bit of foreshadowing for the rest of the film.
I like that this is a picture of a guy looking at a picture and shows Mareck admiring Maria.
The lighting, the awestruck faces of Maria and Tomo, and Mareck clearly admiring Maria again give this image a generally happy and whimsical feel to it, and make it very aesthetically pleasing.
This image comically shows the the devastation of Tomo and Mareck as they drink their sorrows away after Maria leaves for Paris. Also, there are a bunch of creepy little hands in the background on the gates that I didn't notice before.
This snapshot successfully captures the anger and disappointment of Mareck's father, while simultaneously catching Tomo's drunken joy and Mareck's shock and confusion at the situation.

Somers town stills
The light behind the subjects accentuates the innocence and wonder in their faces they explore the streets.
I enjoy the composition in this still which shows the large space in which the subject is in while still giving the sense of self reflection within the subject.
I like this still because although the subjects are centralized the debris that they scattered around them gives weight to the composition.
This shot of the bakery and the shop owner is interesting because the foreground and background shows all that you have to know about this character while the knife in his hand means business.
This shot follows the rule of thirds giving weight to both ends of the image and making the viewers eyes move from one end to the other.

This shot is one of my favorites not only because of its interesting framing in the grid of the window and the irony of the sign (since Marek and Tomo are playfully running on the site), but also because of its relationship to the next shot.
This shot is aesthetically almost identical to the one that precedes it, but lacks any similarity past the surface. This depicts not the hopeful and joyful friendship of Marek and Tomo, and instead evokes a feeling of defeat that Marek's father feels when he comes to terms with the void he feels upon losing his wife and having to leave Marek once again to go to work.

I like the composition of this shot, as it immediately calls to my mind Van Gogh's "Terrace at Night".
I like the emotiveness of this shot; the combination of the metal gate closing over the diner where Maria works, in combination with Marek and Tomo walking away with their heads down, disappointed. The figures are arranged in a diagonal, evoking a feeling of fading gradually into the distance.
This is another highly emotive shot; this is the emotional climax of the film and the empty bottles foreshadow Marek's father's apology for his alcoholism and the subsequent deterioration of his relationship with Marek's mother and Marek himself.
Somers Town Screeshots
I thought this film was very interesting and peculiar and it had a lot of potential for screenshots. I'm surprised I enjoyed it as much as I did even though it's in black and white.
5 screenshots:
1. 28:32min--> The two men seating outside a cafe where Maria works. I like the symmetry of the composition with the other table to the right and the door in the middle of the two tables. I like every-day scenes of people going about their lives and enjoying the present moment.
2. 37:45--> Mareck and Tomo taking Maria on the wheelchair. I liked this screenshot because the happiness I get from this scene seems effortless and there were a lot of screenshots I wanted to choose from, whether it was a close-up of their faces or them running around the corner of a street. I'm very interested in motion.
3. 45:30--> When Mareck and Tomo are seating in the little riding horses in the park after finding out that Maria left to Paris. The screenshot of the two boys too big for the little horses, while holding a bottle of alcohol and looking sad was very attractive to me because it makes the viewer wonder the reason behind the photo. It's not so much about the composition as much as the content in this case

.
4. 41:32--> The scene when Mareck and Tomo are running up the stairs and the sign to the right reads "Children playing on these grounds is prohibited". I thought it was an interesting way of making it funny in a subtle way. The composition of the staircase is also very interesting. Since the glass in front of the staircase makes it blurry, the viewer is forced to focus on the sign.
5. 1:00:35--> At the end when Mareck and Tomo are talking in the rooftop about going on a trip for a weekend. I like the composition and the intimacy of them both as they talk and laugh to each other. I think this is the closest portrait-looking screenshot out of the 5 of them. There's nothing in the surroundings to distract us from the figures in the screenshot.
Overall I thought it was a great film.

Somer Town Assignment
I like the lighting in this shot, it makes it look dream-like.
This is a nice landscape shot that shows the beauty of the town.
This shot tells a story and shows emotion in their faces of them being upset about Maria leaving to go back to Paris.
This shot/point of view is interesting and mysterious. It is also ironic because of the sign.
This image shows the transition to color and the change in emotions. They're going to see Maria in Paris.
